Rubén Guerrero belongs to a generation of artists who are exploring new paths for the future of painting, transforming it into a radically contemporary discipline. His compositions, in which geometric shapes take centre stage, start from small pseudo-architectural objects he himself manufactures. Each painting follows a complex analysis of the resulting image; the objects, systematically forced to adapt to the picture plane, are seen from the full front and create a trompe-l'oeil effect. As we see in this work, Guerrero's paintings reveal a paradox between figurative abstraction and abstract figuration, as the artist seems to be trying to steer our attention in two opposite and tangential directions — on the one hand, inspired by the principles of illusionistic painting; on the other, by speculations on abstraction.
