Painting occupies a prominent position in the ”la Caixa” Contemporary Art Collection. This exhibition aspires to rediscover the medium through the works made by a group of artists who have experimented radically with pictorial images and have established their own definitions of painting — in short, artists who have assumed the challenge of revising painting, continuing to give it meaning.

The selection of works in a wide range of techniques, supports and formats focuses mostly on abstraction, the form of expression that has explored painting as a physical reality in greater depth and that seems to act like a film that stretches and contracts the pictorial medium, granting greater visibility to forms, textures, spaces and colours and creating unique fusions with other artistic media. The idea, therefore, is for us to try and re-engage with painting, reveal some of its secrets and remain captivated by its many enigmas.
