Cucchi had his first individual exhibition in Rome in 1977, and his work soon won international recognition thanks to the exhibitions organised in 1980 by Achille Bonito Oliva with the Italian Transavantgarde group, whose members included Sandro Chia, Francesco Clemente, Nicola de Maria, Nino Longobardi, Mimmo Paladino and Ernesto Tatafiore, and who became known in Spain through the exhibition mounted at the Fundació "la Caixa" exhibition rooms in Madrid in 1983. Since then Cucchi has had a number of individual exhibitions, notably one at the same Fundació "la Caixa" exhibition rooms in Madrid and at the capc Musée d'art contemporain in Bordeaux (1985-1986), at the Museo d'Arte Contemporanea in Prato (1989), the Sezon Museum in Tokyo (1996) and the Galleria Nazionale d'Arte Moderna in Rome (1998). Moreover, we should make particular mention of his writings and his interesting output of artists' books. His work is to be found in numerous collections as one of the most significant examples of the flowering of painting that took place all over Europe in the early eighties and which was characterised by a strong return to figuration.
