ICONOCLASTIC GESTURES, HETERODOX IMAGES

04/03/2016 - 05/06/2016

CaixaForum Barcelona

Art as a provocation and agent for change, in the second show in the Comisart: New Perspectives on the "la Caixa" Collection programme run by the "la Caixa" Foundation to offer emerging curators the opportunity to mount an exhibition of their own.

Iconoclastic Gestures, Heterodox Images, curated by Carlos Martín, invites spectators to think about the phenomenon of the destruction and reappropriation of images, including how images can be manipulated and given radically altered meanings. Recent political events have brought the figure of the iconoclast back into the collective imaginary. The pieces in this exhibition explore issues such as the dialectic between creation and destruction, the conversion of experience into a relic and the aura that surrounds artworks.

The artists featured are Txomin Badiola, Miroslaw Balka, Vanessa Beecroft, Enzo Cucchi, Equipo Crónica, Lucio Fontana, Katharina Fritsch, Rodney Graham, Raymond Hains, Sherrie Levine, Rogelio López Cuenca, Manuel Millares, Javier Peñafiel, Pere Portabella, Pedro G. Romero and Valeska Soares.
