Onofre appropriates images from a scene in the film Martha by Rainer Werner Fassbinder to create an allegory about people’s inability to communicate. In the scene, the characters—a man and a woman—meet and pass each other, their eyes locked in a long steady gaze. The movement of the man draws a line within the space, a line of seduction that primes the space surrounding the body of the woman. The 16-second loop of this failed encounter repeats silently ad infinitum.
