Michael Snow is a forerunner of experimental film whose work raises issues of time, movement and perception. He made See You Later / Au Revoir with a super slow-motion video camera such as those normally used to shoot sporting events. The film shows the artist himself leaving an office and bidding his secretary farewell. The original action, which lasted thirty seconds, was slowed down to make it last eighteen minutes. Originally shot on video and then transferred to film, the images were colour saturated, and a mirror and several monochrome paintings were introduced in the various office spaces, which could be seen as a tribute to Dutch and Flemish painting, from the Baroque to twentieth-century Abstract Art.
