The series of works made by Croft in iron strike up a direct dialogue between sculpture and painting. In this work, the use of glossy industrial paint on the iron plate confirms this idea of sculpture that is perceived as a painting in relief. Throughout art history, the symbiosis between painting and sculpture can be found in polychromed bas-reliefs, a technique practiced in ancient Egypt and Persia and furthered in the twentieth century by Cubism. One of Croft's main contributions is precisely the renewal of the concept of bas-relief via a series of principles that are pictorial and totally cutting edge.
