The works by Marepe (an acronym of Marcos Reis Peixoto), characterised by their combinations of everyday objects and a highly personal aestheticism, respond to the logic of the ready-made even though the artist grants them a uniquely poetical dimension. Marepe shapes these stalagmites and stalactites with bright metallised ornamental ribbons, playing with composition and colour. This work has been selected for display because it confirms the dissolution of disciplines in the art of today, an art that is nevertheless still inspired by a long tradition, one of whose mainstays is painting.
