An important part of Ignasi Aballi's work results from his reflections on painting, its image and its auratic nature. Banknotesis composed of eight pieces that remind us, at first glance, of monochrome painting in the XXth century art history (from Malevich to Ryman). The rejection to which those canonical works referred to becomes, in Aballi's work, a discourse on the absence of value. Seven pieces were made from shredded bills with each one of the different banknotes (5, 10, 20, 50, 100, 200 and 500 euros). The eighth one was made from a mixture of them all. The artist obtained the shredded banknotes from the Bank of Spain. The bills had been withdrawn from circulation to be destroyed. Thus, Aballí builds a new reality recycling society's most precious and used material.
