Dora García started out in the field of sculpture, but her work now encompasses performance, video, electronic media and social networks. She has made use of several bodily processes—including heartbeats, breaths and sweat—and materials such as gold, an element that suggests purification and spiritual enlightenment but whose dust is highly toxic. Bolsa dorada is an opaque, rigid fabric completely covered in gold and hung in a corner of the exhibition space. The piece invites spectators to project their concerns and wishes onto it and question the empty space or hidden content that lies behind the golden surface.
