Carlos Garaicoa
Cuba, 1967
Carlos Garaicoa (Havana, 1967) defines himself as a nonconformist civil animal who uses art as a means to provoke, and as a provocateur who has had to resign himself to using art as a form of civil protest. He understands artistic languages as a space for raising social and political issues and keeping up a critical commitment to society while elucidating aesthetic and linguistic issues. The themes he explores in his work (history, capital and the violence exerted by power over individuals, among others) and his means of expression (sculpture, installations, site-specific creations, etc.) create a communication process in which the artist, above all else, conveys the message.
