Llena's oeuvre is a combination of fragility and solidness, volume and depth, refinement and vulgarity. For decades this artist has been working with ordinary materials like paper, that he cuts out and reuses in his recompositions of painting and constructive space. Art historian Luis Pérez Oramas says that Llena explores in his work a theology of disappearance, an aesthetics of divestment, of the search for nothingness, and the ensuing glorification of what we insistently shun: the remains and debris of the day and the paper that absorbs the fragility that exists in all things. Not being anything in order to become everything.
